Ledyard Bus Transportion
860-464-8346
The Ledyard Transportation Bus Company provides mini-bus transportation for children identified with special
needs. All other students are transported by their
families or other authorized adults and are not eligible for bus
transportation.
The
goal of transportation is to provide safe, consistent transport for our
special needs students to and from school. Bus transportation is a
special service that may be included on a child’s IEP. You will need to
complete a transportation information sheet at the PPT meeting.
PROCEDURES
Please
review the following procedures for transportation services. If
transportation was added to the service page of the IEP or if changes
occur with transportation services, the Early Childhood staff will
notify the transportation office. From the date of notification, it
takes up to three days for transportation to start or to make a change.
This allows transportation office time to re-route their schedules to
accommodate your need. You will receive information from Central Office
or directly from the transportation office concerning pickup and
drop-off times. If you know your child is not going to school, you must
notify the transportation office as early as possible, at 860-464-8346.
This phone is answered in person from 6:00AM until 4:00PM, Monday
through Friday, also the phone is on an answering machine when the
office is closed or if all staff are driving. It is also important for
you to call the Gales Ferry School (860-464-7664) to report the absence of your child.
PICK-UP
Your
child should be at home and ready for pick-up 10 minutes prior to the
scheduled pick-up time. If your child does not come out within 5
minutes, the driver will leave and you will be responsible for
transporting your child to school that day. You are responsible for walking your child to the
minibus and buckling them into their seat.
DROP-OFF
You
should be at home 10 minutes prior to the scheduled drop-off time for
your child. The bus will not, under any circumstances, deliver the child
to an unfamiliar person. If no parent or guardian is waiting when the
bus arrives to drop off the child, the driver will wait for five
minutes. If no one comes out the meet the mini-bus, the driver is
instructed to bring the child back to Gales Ferry School at the end of
their bus route. You will then be responsible for picking up your child
at school.
CHANGES
When
a change in pick-up or drop-off point is required, you must notify Central Office and complete a new transportation request form.
It takes up to three days from notification for the change to go in
effect. You will be contacted by phone or notified by the driver when
the change will become effective.
